Michael Pendlebury – Tailoring Profile

Michael was born in Salford, Manchester back in 1982.

With a passion for mens fashion from a young age and growing up with a tailoring father it was clear from an early age Michael was going to be following his father’s tailoring foot steps.

Working for the family business part time after high school and weekends where possible, Michael left high school age 16 and went into his apprenticeship under the watchful eye of his father.

The late 1990’s had a great new feel for British tailoring industry with fashion designers such as Oswald Boatang, Alexander Mc Queen, Paul Smith, Ted Baker, bringing out some really interesting suit designs made with some unique fabrics we hadn’t seen before.

Michael follows the fashion trends, as he still does today and brought James Personal Tailor & Son up to date with the latest fabrics from Scabal, Savile Row of London.

Scabal have an amazing history going back to 1938.

Michael worked with Scabal on stocking all the complete range of fabrics that the mill produces. Michael has managed to retain this close relationship with Robert Oakes head of Scabal sales in the UK. James Personal Tailor & Son are one of only a handful of tailors ‘off the Row’ who have the complete Scabal fabric collection.

Keeping up to date with the very latest fashion trends through fashion events, social media, magazine’s, television and films such as Suits, Board Walk Empire, The Wolf Of Wall Street, The Great Gatsby, Peaky Blinders etc… all of which show case some superb tailoring and on occasion fabric supplied by Scabal. Michael has built up a vast knowledge of contemporary suit style and fabrics.

Michael works on ‘ the bench ‘ with his father and also looks after the suit alteration side of the business.

Michael was asked to be a part of Channel 4’s new vintage clothing program called This Old Thing with Dawn O’Porter.

This was a six part series involving vintage tailoring to suits, shirts, skirts, dresses etc…

In the below video shows Michael doing a quick tapering jeans video explaining how to do this if at home with limited sewing skills.

 

Michael was featured with his father James to come and have a talk about bespoke tailoring and James Personal Tailor & Son. The interview was hosted by Ted Robbins at BBC Radio Lancashire.

 

Michael has been the chosen tailor by Manchester United Football Club since 2003 for all there suits requirements.

Over the years Hugo Boss and currently Paul Smith supply with main team suits which Michael helps oversee on a monthly visit to the training ground at Carrington to ensure the team suits are a perfect fitment. From this close relationship he has personally tailored on a one to one basis for the majority of the players and coaching staff.
